Intelligent Design in School Today!
When President Bush was asked if the concept of “Intelligent Design” should be taught in schools, he remarked, “You’re asking me whether or not people ought to be exposed to different ideas, and the answer is yes.” This remark by the President sparked wide controversy from many scientists and portions of the press. Government schools in a secular country were not supposed to teach religion. Many scientists held the view that life was a mere accident and not the result of purposeful design. Any suggestion that there was purposeful design would make it religious instruction. Only if the children were taught that life was an accident would it be scientific.
The Christian Church held that the scientific concept of evolution as “an unguided, unplanned process of random variation and natural selection” was not true. On the other side, many scientists held that the advancement of life to modern man was exactly such a process. Read the rest of this entry »
Science vs Religion – Some Random Thoughts on Intelligent Design
I am surprised to see this debate about science vs religion opened back up recently. I thought I settled it back in 1978 when I did my research paper for Mrs. Fitzgerald’s High School English class.

This is the book that gave us Big Brother, the idea of constant surveillance, and a model society based on strict conformity. Among the tools developed to promote conformity, Orwell’s society invented Newspeak, where words are redefined to meet the draconian social order.
In Newspeak we learn that “war is peace,” “love is hate,” and other definitional reversals that send chills down the spine of anyone who understands the implications. The actual 1984 has come and gone, but many of Orwell’s predictions are with us, especially newspeak. We are no longer fired but downsized, wars produce collateral damage instead of civilian casualties, and religion is science.
Did that last one get past you? If not, you may be in a minority, because American school boards have been and remain under pressure to insert religious instruction into the science curriculum as science. Read the rest of this entry »
